E37: Padraig Harrington reminded me of this!
“Golfers need to get better at hitting their next shot.”
Recently, I was fortunate enough to spend the day with three-time major champion and Hall of Fame golfer Padraig Harrington. During one of our conversations, the topic of amateur golfers came up, and he said something that really stuck with me: golfers need to get better at hitting their next shot.
What he meant was the ability to focus solely on the task in front of you—letting go of distractions and not allowing the results (positive or negative) of your previous shot to affect the one you're about to hit.
This resonated with me because I’ve noticed both myself and some of my students falling into this trap lately. Even though we're nearing the end of the year, I still want golfers to strive to finish their season on a high note.
So today, I'm sharing what Padraig's quote meant to me, how I’ve incorporated it into my own process, and a few takeaways that might help you play better golf.
